Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament (Volume 3) on the Greek Word "PRO"

I'm particularly thinking about our conversation on John 17:5.

I think the definition of "world at large" kosmos is the contention.

Duncan, to me there are 2 arguments being set forth in the last video you posted from "Trinity." One is the meaning of pro; the other argument revolves around what kosmos means. That argument is easily addressed, if one considers that kosmos has different senses in differing contexts. The meaning "world at large" or "universe" for kosmos is common enough and well known. But there are times when the word means "humankind in general" (Jn 3:16) or mankind alienated from God (1 John 5:19). Yet there are other meanings too. See 1 Peter 3:3-4.
